It was a double for young sire Siyouni (Fr), trainer Ibrahim Al Malki, owner Abdulatif Hussain Al-Emadi and jockey Eduardo Pedroza at Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha, Qatar Wednesday. Just one race after scooping the Al Rayyan S. with Pazeer (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), Al-Emadi’s Mango Tango (Fr) thoroughly out-classed her rivals in the Qatar Oaks (QAT-G3) over 2000 metres in race six. Unplaced in two runs at Deauville last December and in March of this year, the bay ran second to Highlands Queen (Fr) (Mount Nelson {GB}) in a Saint-Cloud maiden Apr. 3 and donned cap and gown going this distance at Chantilly later that month, before completing the exacta in the wake of that foe in the G3 Prix Cleopatre May 29. Dropping to fourth in the 1 1/2-mile G2 Prix de Malleret, Mango Tango once again was the bridesmaid to Highlands Queen, this time in Deauville’s G2 Shadwell Prix de Pomone Aug. 13 and signed off her European career with another fourth-place effort in the G2 Qatar Prix de Royallieu Oct. 1.
One of the dearest lots in Arqana’s Arc Sale (lot 17) when snapped up for €400,000 this October, she raced in a rank third before relaxing for the backstretch run. Shifted out to the attack with 1000 metres to travel, Mango Tango had improved to the pacesetter’s hindquarters as the field entered the final bend. In control from there, Mango Tango cruised home the easiest of winners. She has a yearling full-sister named Fierte d’Amour (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) and is from the same family as German highweight and G1 Melbourne Cup hero Almandin (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), as well G1 German Oaks heroine Amarette (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) and G2 German 2000 Guineas victor Aviso (Ger) (Tertullian).
