A field of 13 fillies was entered Wednesday for the GI American Oaks, which will have its first December running Saturday at Santa Anita. The race was inaugurated at the now-defunct Hollywood Park in 2002 and originally run in early July. It was moved to Santa Anita in 2014 and was last run in May of 2015. Saturday’s renewal of the $300,000 race will feature a contentious field of local graded stakes winners, including this year’s GIII Senorita S. winner Stays in Vegas (City Zip), who drew post two. Making her first start at 1 1/4 mile Saturday, Stays in Vegas is coming off a third-place effort in the one-mile GI Matriarch S. at Del Mar Dec. 4.

Stays in Vegas could give co-owner LNJ Foxwoods a Santa Anita Grade I double, following Constellation (Bellamy Road)’s win in Monday’s GI La Brea S.

Decked Out (Street Boss), who just nosed out Stays in Vegas to finish second in the Aug. 20 GI Del Mar Oaks, will break from post seven in Saturday’s Oaks. The chestnut filly captured the GIII Providencia S. over the Santa Anita lawn in April, but will be looking to rebound from a non-threatening 12th-place finish in the Oct. 1 GI Rodeo Drive S.

Mokat (Uncle Mo), who chased Songbird (Medaglia d’Oro) home over the main track in Santa Anita graded races last spring, moved back to the lawn after a 13th-place effort in the GI Kentucky Oaks and promptly won the July 23 GII San Clemente H. at Del Mar. She was subsequently a close-up fourth in the Del Mar Oaks and is coming off an even fifth in the Oct. 15 GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. The dark bay filly breaks from the outside in the field of 13.
